There are many debates about remote work being good or bad for the environment. Recently we all have experienced and some of us are still experiencing self-quarantine due to COVID-19 outburst, and for that reason many of us were working from home. It led to some changes that we can’t ignore. There was absence of cars, fewer white streaks scouring the sky, most of construction sites were closed. It caused a colossal amount of negativity to our people and economy. But it is true that remote work saves environment.

-Due to lockdown GHGs reduced by 25 percent in Mainland China.

-New York’s Air pollution level halved since the lockdown.

    – 388.8 million tons less of carbon dioxide emitted in Europe

Continuing to work distantly can help us keep some of these emissions. Starting this small, we can help our planet to improve its health.

There are natural and human-made causes that change our climate. Natural cause occurs unrelatedly of our intervention, it determines a range of temperature within our planet lies. We on the other side, intervene with our atmosphere that also influences the temperature on Earth. Nitrous Oxide, Carbon Dioxide and Methane all these gases crucially increased after the industrial revolution.

Since you will be working online from your home office, you won’t need to drive to/back from your office. Petrol/Diesel vehicles bring almost 30% of total air pollution. Imagine how much better our air will be if we won’t need to go to the office every day.

    Office Waste

While working in the office we use a lot of resources from paper to plastic. When working remotely we will reduce the use of printer paper, plastic utensils, office equipment etc. When working online, most documents will be digital, and workers won’t use as much plastic utensils at home as they use in the office.

    Sick leave

Since there will be no need to interact with great amount of people in person, there will be lower risk to catch a virus or other illnesses, this will lead to having more of quality work days.
